Fashionistas wanting to know what life after Lanvin entailed for its former Creative Director, Alber Elbaz, who abruptly left in October 2015, were in the dark no more as the renowned fashion designer made his return to the fashion world with an exciting collaboration alongside LeSportsac and revealed at their New York Fashion Week bash, kicking off the weeklong celebration of Spring 2019 fashions in the most glorious way.

With the sun setting in the background of Spring Studios, one of the official locations of NYFW where top designers from Cynthia Rowley to Jeremy Scott showcased Spring 2019 looks, the line getting pass the velvet ropes with a pre-approved barcode and onto the red carpet leading into the shows grew by the minute. On hand to see it all was Seawanhaka contributor and Journalism major, Julia Remillard attending alongside with LIU’s Entertainment Journalism professor, Deborah Lewis.
It seemed like all walks of life had gathered to witness the stunning collaboration. Upon entering the Tribeca located event space decked out to honor the collaboration invitees were greeted by large balloons many bearing Elbaz’s image, falling confetti, live DJs and a four-tiered birthday cake decorated with bags from the collection.
The room was buzzing with praise for Elbaz, as “oohhs” and “aahhs” echoing from the attendees as they queued to get their very own token of the night – a keepsake tee-shirt bearing quotes from the designer and printed to the shirts right on the spot for them.

Without a doubt, the collaboration between LeSportsac and Elbaz perfectly captured the essence of celebration and reminded one to not live too seriously. Between the pop-up photo booth, the candycopia assortment of sweets, glittered popcorn and Jetson-like bubble chairs suspended from the ceiling – Yes you could sit in them –the party was a living representation of the collection itself–OUT OF THIS WORLD! The setting was joy, excitement and a true feeling of youthfulness. If the vision Elbaz had for this collection was to inspire, he achieved it and more. But even more inspiring was seeing it come to life before everyone’s eyes.
The collaboration is a celebration of not only life, but also childhood. It took those attending out of their realities even if just for a moment and into a world of sugar and spice and everything nice and where birthday cake, music, and dancing is the only responsibilities.
Indeed, the LeSportsac x Alber Elbaz NYFW kickoff celebration was a triumph from both a brilliant brand and a man. This is a party that will be remembered for seasons to come.
